I donated 10 inches of my hair!

I rarely cut my hair, usually just once a year, and occasionally twice. However, this year I made the decision to chop it off earlier than usual because managing such a massive amount of hair was becoming a real challenge. I mean who has time to shampoo and conditioner for more than 30 minutes amirite?! But you know what - It was like the universe was on my side this time because I finally had enough to fulfill my dream of donating!!!

In the past, I either forgot about donating or went to salons that didn't facilitate it. There were also instances where I had dyed my hair without realizing that dyed hair cannot be donated. But this time, everything aligned perfectly, and I'm so excited to be able to contribute to a cause I've always wanted to support :)

I had about 9.5 inches of hair (ok almost 10) and I spent a considerable amount of time researching to find the perfect organization to donate it to. Most places had a requirement of 12 inches or more, and unfortunately, I didn’t have the guts to cut those extra 2 inches off. However, that's when I discovered Children with Hair Loss, an incredible organization that accepts a minimum of 8 inches (with shorter options available for boys' wigs). They are doing amazing work, and I knew they were the perfect fit for my donation.

Sharing some information about the org below.

Children with Hair Loss

Children with Hair Loss is dedicated to providing high-quality hair replacements at no cost to children and young adults facing hair loss due to various medical conditions. They strive to instill confidence and restore a sense of normalcy to these individuals by providing them with custom-fitted wigs and hair replacements. With a mission to empower and support these children, Children with Hair Loss aims to make a positive impact on their lives and help them feel beautiful and confident once again.

To donate your hair to Children with Hair Loss, here is a step-by-step guide:

  1. Check the donation requirements: Children with Hair Loss accepts hair donations that are a minimum of 8 inches long, and they prefer hair that has not been chemically treated (colored or permed).

  2. Prepare your hair for donation: Ensure that your hair is clean, dry, and free from styling products. It's best to tie your hair in a ponytail or braid before cutting.

  3. Make the cut: Use sharp scissors or have a professional stylist cut the hair above the elastic band or braid, leaving at least 8 inches of hair intact.

  4. Package your hair: Place the hair in a sealable plastic bag to keep it clean and dry during transit. Double-check that the hair is securely packaged.

  5. Fill out the donation form: Visit the Children with Hair Loss website (https://childrenwithhairloss.org/new-hair-donation) and fill out the online hair donation form. Provide your contact information and answer any required questions.

  6. Send your donation: Place the sealed plastic bag containing your hair, along with the completed donation form, in an envelope or padded mailer. Ensure that the package is properly sealed.

  7. Mail your donation: Send your hair donation to the following address: Children With Hair Loss 12776 Dixie Highway South Rockwood, MI 48179

  8. Optional: Include a self-addressed stamped envelope if you would like to receive an acknowledgment of your donation.

Hope this encourages someone to donate their hair instead of letting it just get swept away into the abyss!
