Simple portfolio advice

As an ADP list mentor, I'm genuinely enthusiastic about the vibrant community and the opportunity to connect with individuals across diverse roles and industries. The process is efficient and has seamlessly enhanced my mentorship, complementing the work I do through my alumni board. By subscribing to the ADP list newsletter, I stumbled upon a gem titled "This portfolio guide will land you interviews" by founder Felix Lee. Its simplicity and effectiveness struck me, so of course I made a note to share this valuable resource.

Key insight takeaways:

  1. Three is the Magic Number — Max 3 great case studies

  2. Don’t show what you don’t love‍ — you need to talk about it

  3. Show your range‍ — different industries, same impact

  4. Make it visual — Use less text and more images.

  5. Add prototypes — not just screenshots and texts

  6. Edit your story. Reduce the number of slides, and make your story crisp.

  7. Keep it simple. Test with non-designers, non-tech friends, and family if they can understand your role; it’ll only be more effective with designers.

  8. Polish. Check your spelling, check your alignments.

  9. Test. Talk to ADPList Mentors — get critiques, and do mock interviews.

  10. Finish your portfolio. It’ll never be perfect, so just time box and finish it in not more than a couple of weeks.
