Ladies Wine & Design

I love Jessica Walsh! Ladies Wine Design was started by Jessica Walsh after this happened and she realized that sometimes women can be competitive or unsupportive of one another. Only a small percent of creative directors are women, and LWD wants to help change this through mentorship circles, portfolio reviews, talks, and creative meet-ups. In less than two years of launching, they’ve spread to chapters in over 200 cities all over the world. If you’re a student or creative in NYC and would like to join, reach out here. If you want to join another city chapter's event, check out the city map. It's free to LWD events.

It was a real throwback being at the foundry because I went to school for design and as part of our ‘foundation year’ I took so many print+letter making classes where my love and appreciation of typography first began. Very nostalgic about using those machines and being around letterpress materials. The experience reminded me how much I miss using my hands now that 95% of the work I do is on my computer.

At the event, we learned of the nuances of working with metal type and how it has influenced the typography we use today. Also - great tips on how we can still pull inspiration to improve our skills and add a hand-felt touch. It was a super fun event complete with cheese and wine! I love Ladies, Wine, and Design, I’ve linked it out in case anyone wants to check it out - they have events throughout the year and are almost always looking for volunteers!
