Parsons School of Design Centennial

I graduated from Parsons School for Design in the Communication Design and Technology program. I have incredible memories from my Parsons years. Four intense, formative years surrounded by inspiring peers and professors. Lately I’ve felt a pull to go back in some way. Even though I’ve stayed connected as an alum, I wanted to find a deeper way to be involved.

At the end of 2019, by pure luck, I connected with Mia Wilson, Director of Alumni Engagement at Parsons, who introduced me to the Parsons Alumni Board. The board is made up of alumni who help shape workshops, events, mentorship programs, community outreach, and speaker series.

It’s been incredibly rewarding to be part of such an engaged alum community. 2019 also marked a huge milestone: the Parsons Centennial. One hundred years since The New School began. This year is packed with events bringing the global community together, and I wanted to share how you can be part of it.

“A century ago, daring professors in New York City walked out on an imperfect model of education, inspiring today’s New School community of scholars, creators, and activists to make their mark on the world. We ask the questions that lead to new questions, challenging the status quo. Our only constant is innovation. As we begin our second century of groundbreaking scholarship, bold creativity, and world-changing ideas, we are 100 years new.”

To celebrate the centennial, The New School is opening its doors to communities here and around the world. Explore the legacy and see how 1919 sparked something new.

Check out the new centennial website for all the events, history, archives & more. There’s also a centennial collection at the store if you want a little Parsons swag refresh.
